St. Nicholas

Circa 1711-44
St. Florian's Monastery, St. Florian, Austria

St. Nicholas is bearded as usual and dressed as a bishop with mitre, cope, and crozier. His images in later periods tend to ignore the legend that the Council of Nicea had deprived him of his mitre. The three golden balls on the book refer to his gift to the impoverished father of three daughters.
